Harris County Precinct Two Commissioner Sylvia R. Garcia was on hand recently to tour the new John Phelps Courthouse Annex in Pasadena with Mr. Phelps and Art Storey, Harris County’s director of public infrastructure.

Located at 101 Richey at State Highway 225, an open house is scheduled to be held on Friday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. until noon.

Construction on the project began in September of 2009 with construction costs of approximately $13.25 million coming in at considerably less than initial estimates that ran as high as $16 million.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 11, the new annex will house Garcia’s area office that is currently located at the Kyle Chapman Annex at 7330 Spencer Highway. Also opening on that Monday will be the Harris County Tax Assessor Collector’s office.

The next Monday, Oct. 18, the following offices will open in the new Annex: Harris County Juvenile Probation, Justice of the Peace George Risner, County Clerk Loren Jackson and the Environmental Services Division of Public Health.

The courthouse annex has been named the John Phelps Courthouse Annex to recognize the longtime area businessman and volunteer.
