HOUSTON – Senator Sylvia R. Garcia released the following statement today in response to video footage taken at Planned Parent Gulf Coast:

"Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast has been a primary provider of women's healthcare in my district for many years. Women in District 6 have depended on Planned Parenthood for cervical cancer screenings and a variety of other necessary and imperative health resources. I am hopeful that any investigation on the state and federal level will focus strictly on the facts and not political gamesmanship.

“The video released today is only a small, selectively-edited version of a much longer video.  Naturally, there is far more to these videos than what has been released today, and my hope is that investigators and the media will seek the whole truth."

“This facility has helped numerous low-income families with an array of healthcare and reproductive services. Therefore, I am hopeful that this investigation will show that there was no wrongdoing on their part and that no Houstonian will lose access to lifesaving cancer screenings and other important healthcare services.”
