Harris County AFL-CIO Endorses
Sylvia Garcia for Senate District 6

Yesterday Harris County AFL-CIO COPE Members met with Senate District 6 candidates and by a landslide voted to endorse Sylvia Garcia as the leader they know will fight for fair jobs, healthcare and education in Austin.

“Sylvia Garcia has been a strong supporter of working families’ issues from her days with the City of Houston to Commissioners Court.  She has the experience and knowledge to represent the people of District 6 and will address critical needs like education and healthcare.  Sylvia will be an outstanding Senator for the State of Texas," said Richard Shaw, Harris County AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer.

“In my positions as Chief Municipal Judge, City Controller and County Commissioner I have fought at every level to provide workers with fair wages, safe work places and an open door.  I am honored to have this endorsement and look forward to working for the families of Senate District 6.

Once again, I will call on the Governor to set the special election for Senate District 6. It would be unfair and unjust to leave the residents of the district without representation – they deserve representation in Austin when the session starts in January of 2013,” said Garcia.

Garcia has also been endorsed by State Representatives Jessica Farrar, Ana Hernandez-Luna, Armando Walle, Garnet Coleman, and Area5 Democrats.
