Once again, we had a packed house for our Town Hall meeting in East Harris County, serving Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, Shoreacres, South Houston, and Morgan’s Point. While the usual issues of flooding, drainage and traffic were high on everyone’s list, the meeting addressed progress as well as remaining challenges. Read Pasadena Citizen article here.

We hosted a briefing at the Port of Houston Authority and a boat tour of the Houston Ship Channel for 40 Latino leaders from throughout the country and members of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO). The visit was in conjunction with NALEO Educational Fund’s Policy Institute on Energy. The three-day academic seminar in Houston featured a series of informational panels, sessions and strategy groups to enhance participants’ understanding of all types of energy sources, affordable energy solutions and the intersection between technology, economic impact and environmental stewardships.

Lindale residents knew something was cooking at my home other than grilled burgers and chili dogs because of the streets lined with cars for blocks around my house. It is reassuring to know that the standing room only crowd is ready to work and get out the vote to win in November. Thank you volunteers!

We continue to fight  to save  jobs at NASA. Once again we traveled to Washington, DC to fight for full funding for NASA.  Click here to listen to my radio interview.

On the heels of Memorial Day we find ourselves taking time to take stock and look at what we are doing to honor our Veterans. It is a time to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy due to their service and to redouble our efforts to ensure that all our veterans and their families enjoy a good quality of life. Our Pct2gether Veterans Program does that every day, assisting veterans throughout our precinct with VA benefits applications; providing buses for medical transportation to and from VA clinics; distributing food; visiting them at nursing homes and much more.

We also make time for a little fun. Our veterans participate in all our Senior Program activities. And, just for them, a Veterans Picnic is held each October to bring all of our veterans and their families for fun, music and food. This year’s picnic is set for October 16, 2010, 11am - 3pm, at Highlands Park. To contribute or volunteer to help, register here or simply make plans to join us.
